Coat Blog Post - Gails Rails

I’ve Got You Covered! Lets talk coats!

Winter coats are a major part of our Capsule Wardrobe and this season there is a huge amount of choice that can leave us a little overwhelmed as to what style suits us best.

This time of year a lot of my clients are searching for the perfect coat and my advice will always be “Go for something bright” even if it is a neutral colour, try to purchase something that will brighten your complexion rather than going for greys and blacks.

For Hourglass, pear and column shaped bodies I would suggest something that’s nipped in or belted at the waist. A-line is a lovely shape for creating and emphasising a waist.

Here are some perfect examples that are in stores at the moment:

For Apple shaped bodies I’d suggest a single button or slight flare coat!

Try a neckline that is neat or even collarless to avoid any unnecessary bulk around the bust.

Block colours are best with little fuss around the middle. Or something with cleverly positioned panelling to create the optical illusion of a more defined waist.

Here are some I suggest for this body shape:

For inverted triangle body shapes, try avoid large lapels/collars and also avoid any shoulder detail so it doesn’t widen your shoulder area out.

Try something with hip detail such as pockets!

Here’s my top picks for Inverted Triangle Shape bodies.

Good Out-Door wear really is essential for our unpredictable Irish weather. For me, I have always loved Helly Hansen! Their product is both water and wind proof and their ladies section is a very flattering cut. It is a pricey range but I do believe we need to invest in good outerwear especially for outdoor family fun and pitch side Mammies. It will last the test of time and a garment you can always rely on so you don’t end up with flu.

If you are a little confused as to what body shape you fall in to, Ive attached my beautiful 5 Body Shape Illustrations drawn for me by the very talented Linda Byrne Illustration from Kildare.

These will make it a lot easier for you to figure it out if you don’t all ready know.

      Hi Helen
This is actually a miss print. It’s meant to say less defined waist xx
So sorry. I’ll amend that now xx
