Maternity Capsule Wardrobe

Firstly let me start of by saying a massive congratulations to all you Mama’s to be 🎉
It’s such an exciting time!! I absolutely loved being pregnant on my 2!! Long time ago now with Ruari being almost 18 and Emma 12!! But I remember both so clearly!

You really embrace the whole process! Keeping track of each stage as you watch your baby bump grow and you really want to enjoy that and not have to worry about what your going to wear!!

Last week I have my very first Expectant Mammy! It was her first so she was massively excited. She wanted a capsule wardrobe that would see her through to her due date but also items that will accommodate her postpartum days too!

My advice is to keep your maternity wardrobe to a minimum, but still try to come up with cute, cool, and stylish outfits.

You will find you have a lot of items in your wardrobe already that will accommodate a growing bump! So don’t be rushing out and spending a fortune on expensive maternity clothing.
Also try borrow some pieces from family or friends and try kept your postpartum body in mind when purchasing new items, because you know I’m all about making clothing pieces last.

By adding simple items to your wardrobe you can create multiple outfits throughout your journey, just by switching up the outer wear or changing your shoes.

Here are the pieces that will take you from your little baby bump to your huge third trimester belly, and will carry you through your postpartum days, too.

Basic Jersey/Cotton tops
A must have in any wardrobe let alone a maternity wardrobe! Dunnes Stores and H&M do great longline non maternity ones that will accommodate your bump in the early days and will also come in handy after baby is born. The second and 3rd trimester you may need the maternity ones to accommodate your growing baba. Great places to buy are H&M maternity and Topshop Maternity.
Here’s some examples:

Shirts

Shirts are fantastic for layering over t-shirts and vest tops and you probably have lots in your wardrobe the will work perfect for your pregnancy months if left open. For your later months, great places to buy maternity ones are New Look and H&M

Knitwear

Knit wear is great!! Because of the stretch so you can buy a lot of non maternity items that will carry you through to when baby arrives. Cardigan are particularly perfect and with the oversized trend in at the moment, it’s the perfect time to be expecting!

Dresses

Swing dresses are a saving grace while pregnant. They are absolutely the most comfortable “maternity” dresses ever. Majority of these are not even deemed maternity, making them great for when baby is born. But for me, I love shirt dresses and wrap dresses while pregnant!
And can be bought at the early stages and can be adjusted at the waist to accommodate your growing bump!

Skirts

Skirts are great, especially for mixing and matching and layering! Easy to wear and a great alternative to trousers for work and way comfier! Wear with opaque tights for winter months.

Jeans & Bottoms

While pregnant I was never a big jeans or trousers person but that really depends on the individual. I was more a leggings and dresses kind of girl. It was just more comfortable especially towards the end.
Black leggings can be worn with pretty much any of the blouses and outerwear, and they can even go under dresses.

Perfect no brainer for over trousers and skirts! And a complete look with very little effort.

Occassion wear / Nights out

Very far and few between but you could get caught with a party or wedding during your bump months!
But don’t spend a fortune. Be clever! A nice blouse and jeans is perfect for a party or a pretty wrap dress for a wedding! Bling it up with nice accessories that you will use again and your good to go 😉

Outer wear

Depending on the time of year, outerwear can vary!
For winter months buy something that keeps you warm! You don’t need to be sick unnecessarily during this precious time.
If it’s spring /summer a blazer is enough to have for outerwear and the ones you have in your wardrobe are fine left open. Same applies for Denim or leather jackets.

These pieces are reasonably priced, and they really will give you the most bang for your buck. When you have a capsule wardrobe in place, it makes getting dressed so easy and quick, any mom’s dream.

I attached below some Pregnancy Inspiration Looks.

I hope this has been helpful and a massive good luck to all the new and expectant Mammy’s out there!

Love
